Lost in an archive in Germany for 150 years and recently rediscovered by Erika Eichenseer, Director of the Franz Xaver von Schönwerth Society. Between the pages you will find a slice of history as old, as raw, and as visceral as the early Grimms full of witches, magical beasts, giants, mer-people, in beautiful and frightening predicaments.
Translated into English by Shelley Tanaka, an award winning editor and translator. Shelley's eagle eye for the right tales and her incredible support helped to shape this project into something magical, well beyond my dreams. Edited by the incredible Amanda Lewis and Art Directed by Jennifer Lum, whose brilliant guidance caught this project adrift and reeled it back to shore on several occasions. Their immeasurable passion and gentle hands lifted my sails along the way. My gratitude for and admiration of these amazing women and the entire team at Knopf is as wide and deep as the sea.
