2489 - Creating Comics and Graphic Novels
Take a deep dive into comics creation in this 8 week University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies course with cartoonist and author/illustrator Willow Dawson (White as Milk, Red as Blood; Avis Dolphin; The Wolf-Birds; and member of R.A.I.D.) and special guest Jennifer Lum (Senior Designer at Penguin Random House Canada: The Handmaid’s Tale (Graphic Novel); Two Generals; The Spectral Engine and more). Through a combination of talks, assignments and workshopping you will learn the nuts and bolts of sequential narrative, explore the special relationship between text and image, develop character voice through dialogue, experiment with scriptwriting styles, build your world, and develop your ideas into comic pages or scripts ready to pitch. ALL COMIC GENRES AND STYLES WELCOME. Some assignments entail drawing but no special drawing skills are necessary.
